Child Protection (Safeguarding)

All schools have a major responsibility regarding Child Protection.
Should there be any case where a school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, then staff have to follow Child Protection Procedures, which may involve contact with social care.
Our school safeguarding lead is Assistant Principal, Damien Edmondson and the deputy designated safeguarding lead is student support officer, Tammy Martin.

You can find our Safeguarding Policy and Statement and Health and Safety Policy on our Policies page.

Young Carers

At UTC Portsmouth our young carers are identified through various ways. Namely;

  • information passed on from their previous school

  • declaration of being a young carer via the enrolment form

  • information passed to the safeguarding team  via parents

  • self declared by students

To support young carers we hold individual mentoring sessions once a term and drop in sessions every other tuesday afternoon. We also provide academic,emotional, social, and exam preparation support.

If you require any further information regarding young carers please contact Mrs Tammy Martin tammy.martin@utcportsmouth.org
