Students at UTC Portsmouth are opening their GCSE results today, with 50% achieving the governments ‘strong pass’ measure of grade 5s in English and Maths, with and 72% of them achieving grade 4s or higher in English and Maths.
With results expected to return to pre-pandemic levels, UTC Portsmouth students have achieved significantly higher than those of 2019 when 39% achieved grade 5s or higher in English and Maths (up 11%) and 60% of them achieving grade 4s or higher in English and Maths (up 12%).
With only two years from joining the college to work towards their GCSEs, the cohort has produced some fantastic results, which enable them to continue their studies for two more years at UTC Portsmouth Sixth Form or at their choice of destination.
James Doherty, Principal of UTC Portsmouth said: “I am so proud of our students and the grades they have achieved. Attainment in STEM subjects is significantly up on 2019 and is even up on last year, showing just how well our students have progressed. It is a testament to the teaching here in our non-selective setting where students start their learning with us in Year 10 from a huge range of different schools.
“Well done to all our students and I wish them every success in their continued studies into Sixth Form.”
