UTC Portsmouth was incredibly excited and honoured to welcome HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex to the college on Thursday 26 April 2018 to meet students from across the city working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Students from neighbouring Trafalgar School greeted Prince Edward as he arrived outside the college before being officially welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Cllr Ken Ellcome and Principal of UTC Portsmouth, Ciaran O'Dowda.
HRH Prince Edward was shown around the college by Mr O'Dowda and introduced to the various groups of students from schools and colleges including Priory, Mayville High School, Portsmouth College, Springfield and Portsmouth grammar School.
We had two groups of students meeting HRH; our ten Gold Award student who showed off their map reading skills and talked about their fundraising efforts, and our twenty one Bronze Award students who had recreated their camp from a recent expedition. All the students were very grateful for the amount of time HRH spent speaking to them and how interested he was in them and what they were doing.
Freya Long, DofE Manager at UTC Portsmouth said: "All our DofE students and staff were very excited to host this regional event. There were many proud moments for our college and it was especially wonderful that every DofE student had the opportunity to speak to HRH. "
