Great destinations secured by UTC Portsmouth Sixth Form students

Students at UTC Portsmouth are receiving their A level and equivalent results today, with their fantastic achievements securing them an array of places at top universities and degree apprenticeships.

Headline figures show that the number of students achieving AAB or higher has increased again this year.

Apprenticeships have for the first year been a more popular destination than university, with 59% of the cohort saying that is their preferred option after college. University is the choice for nearly 40% of the cohort with nearly half opting for Russell Group universities. Staying locally for university is still a popular choice too, but less so than in the past two years with 13% opting for the University of Portsmouth this time around.

The array of opportunities secured for Higher and Degree apprenticeships are really impressive with many students heading to opportunities with our Employer Partners including; Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, DSTL, Royal Navy, Eaton Aerospace, Waterman Aspen and Airbus. Others have secured fantastic opportunities with big name companies including Rolls Royce, KPMG, and Roke.

James Doherty, Principal at UTC Portsmouth said: “It’s wonderful to see such fantastic outcomes for these young people, many of whom I remember from when they joined us in Year 10. I am really proud of all of our students today not just for the grades they have achieved but where those grades enable them to go.

“As a college, we focus on destinations; helping each student to achieve the next steps they want to be well equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.  Seeing what this cohort has achieved proves that with hard work as well as taking advantage of all the other exciting opportunities the college offers, they can go to amazing destinations.”
